WFA Cup Finals Day: Aspire PFC Preview

Following a 2-1 victory away at Villa Rockets in the third round, Aspire booked their place at the John Good Group WFA Cup finals day on 9th May at Derby Arena.

In previous years, the quarter and semi-finals of the WFA Cup have been hosted at Derby Arena. This year, for the first time, this day will also see the WFA Cup final contested, making it the most anticipated date in the Powerchair Football calendar for many.

Aspire know who they will face in the quarter-final thanks to a draw on 21st March.

Quarter-Final: Vs GBG Knights

09:30 - Court B

Aspire will take on GBG Knights in the quarter-finals. The Knights were recently relegated from the Premiership on the final day.

Aspire beat GBG Knights in both league games this season, with a 7-0 aggregate score. They also have met twice in the West Midlands Regional League, with Aspire again winning both meetings.

The second set of quarter-finals will take place at 10:40. The full list of quarter-final fixtures can be seen below.

09:30 (Court A) Sevenoaks PFC vs Teesside PFC

09:30 Court (B) GBG Knights vs Aspire PFC

10:40 (Court A) Greenbank PFC vs West Bromwich Albion PFC

10:40 (Court B) Newcastle United Foundation PFC vs Middlesbrough PFC

Semi-Finals & The Final

Following the four quarter-finals, there will be a draw at 11:50 in the arena which will determine the two semi-final ties.

The semi-finals will both take place at 13:00, with the winners of each booking their place in the John Good Group WFA Cup Final.

The final will take place on Court A. This year, the finalists will also be playing for European qualification, alongside league champions Leeds, with an EPFA Champions Cup set to take place next year.

Aspire are the reigning champions of the John Good Group WFA Cup, after defeating West Bromwich Albion 2-1 at St George's Park last year live on TNT Sports.

The cup winners from this season will take on Leeds in the FA Disability Cup, the powerchair football Community Shield equivalent, in June.

The Event

Derby Arena this year has been billed as the biggest domestic celebration of powerchair football yet.

Many will be in attendance to enjoy a packed schedule of football, and cheer on their team.

The Aspire travelling support is notoriously strong, and you can join and help them make their noise by securing your free tickets here. Doors open for spectators at 9AM.

The games will be streamed by the Wheelchair Football Association.
